The assessor is responsible for the discovering, listing, and valuing of all taxable (both real and personal) property within the jurisdiction. Real property is the land and things permanently affixed to the land, such as: buildings, paving, lighting, fencing, etc. Personal property is all other property, such as: furniture, fixtures, signs and equipment used in the course of business.
The Assessing office is responsible for the preparation of assessments, taxable values and public records on each property in the township. This office also maintains principal residence exemption status, qualified agricultural exemption status and qualified forest property exemption status. The assessing office mails assessment change notices on each property after the annual assessment roll is completed in February.
